To get started, call the clinic or schedule your appointment online through our website. Choose a time when you can feel relaxed before and after your session, as acupuncture works best when you’re not rushed. When booking, it’s helpful to mention any specific issues or goals you'd like to address, such as chronic pain, stress, or sleep concerns.
Once your appointment is set, plan to arrive about 10 to 15 minutes early to the acupuncture clinic, or complete any paperwork online. You’ll need to provide a health history, including current medications, treatments, allergies, and insurance information (if applicable). Being honest and thorough is important, as this information allows your practitioner to create a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.
Before your visit, double-check the acupuncture clinic's address. It’s a good idea to bring directions if you’re unfamiliar with the area. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, as your practitioner may need access to your arms, legs, or back during treatment, especially if you are getting acupuncture for pain relief
At your first appointment, your acupuncturist will review your paperwork and ask more detailed questions about your symptoms, lifestyle, and overall health. They may also examine your pulse, tongue, and range of motion to form a Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis. This part of the session helps build a personalized acupuncture treatment plan. Feel free to ask questions or voice any concerns — open communication is encouraged.
You’ll be asked to lie comfortably on a treatment table, either face-up or face-down, depending on your condition. The acupuncturist will insert very thin, sterile needles into specific points on your body. Most people feel little to no pain; you may notice a slight tingling, heaviness, or warmth, which is a normal response to acupuncture. The needles typically remain in place for 20 to 30 minutes. This is a time to relax and unwind, so take deep breaths and let yourself fully rest.
After your treatment, it’s important to drink plenty of water and take it easy if you can. Your practitioner might offer guidance for what to do at home, such as gentle stretches, breathing exercises, or dietary changes. In some cases, they may recommend herbal supplements or suggest follow-up acupuncture appointments to continue care. Pay attention to how your body responds in the hours and days after treatment, as this feedback is useful for adjusting future sessions.
